Human Cost of the Civil War: In this lesson students will understand the widespread impact that the war had on the nation. Students will then use statistics to graph the deaths in American Wars and losses in the Civil War in both the Union and Confederacy.

Civil War Newspaper Project:  In our study of the Civil War era, students will assume the role of REPORTERS. You are a team of newspaper reporters, living in this very turbulent time, the Civil War years. The boom of cannons, firing of guns, and the clanging of swords ring in your ears at battles rage all around you. It is a site you will never forget as you witness the war in it’s most terrible form! Pitting brother against brother and neighbor against neighbor, you think back to the days when this same lush, the green countryside was your and your friends’ playground. Now, it is crimson with the spilled blood of the nation. The country is being torn apart before your eyes!
